Pocono Raceway – William Byron earned the pole for the Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway with a lap of 51.875.
Byron now has back-to-back pole awards and three total in the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. The second year driver has adapted well to the pressure of single-car qualifying and feels comfortable with the newly implemented format.
“I feel like single-car qualifying is helping me because that’s what I grew up doing with late model stuff and legends stuff.”
While Byron has been qualifying well, the 21 year old has yet to find victory lane in 2019. The Hendrick Motorsports driver has been working to improve communication with crew chief Chad Knaus throughout the duration of the race.
“It’s been a little difficult for us throughout the race to get the balance right. That comes from my communication and knowing what you’re going to need at the end of the race.”
