Kurt Busch outduels his brother Kyle Busch in a two-lap shootout to win the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday night.
After finishing second to Kyle Busch earlier in the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season at Bristol, Kurt found redemption in Kentucky. The victory is Kurt’s first of the season and first win for Chip Ganassi Racing in 2019. Saturday night was also the first time the No. 1 car was back in victory lane since 2013, where Jamie McMurray won at Talladega Superspeedway.
Kurt Busch is as passionate of a racecar driver as ever, and his emotions were on full display after stepping out of his Chevrolet Camaro on the frontstretch. “Hell Yeah, Hell Yeah!” Busch yelled, firing up the crowd cheering him on.
Busch continued, “Racing your brother every week and watching him win a lot, I’m proud of him but I’m proud of him that he gave me a little room on the outside. What an awesome run, we got this Monster Energy Chevy in victory lane!”
Kyle Busch came up just short in his effort to pass Kurt on the bottom in the final two laps, finishing 2nd in the Quaker State 400. “Glad it was a thriller, just unfortunate that we were on the wrong end of the deal.” Said Kyle Busch on pitroad after the race.
“Congratulations to Kurt, and Chip (Ganassi), Monster and all the guys over there. It’s obviously cool to put on great races and great finishes,” stated Busch.
Joey Logano Comes Up Short in Fight for Victory in Quaker State 400 at Kentucky
Joey Logano looked to be running away with the victory before an incident involving Bubba Wallace brought out the final caution on Lap 262. Starting on the outside on the restart, Logano was forced three-wide entering Turn 1, where both Kurt and Kyle Busch cleared him down the backstretch.
Logano ended up finishing 7th after leading 19 laps late in the race. “I was doing what I had to do to clear the 18 before I got to Turn 1 – (Kyle Busch) just got me in the left rear and stopped my momentum,” said Logano. When asked if there was anything he could learn from the restart, Logano simply stated, “We had the fastest car and didn’t win, that’s the takeaway.”
